Description

Tucked away in the far reaches of western Tanzania, Katavi National Park is a true jewel of the wild—untamed, remote, and breathtakingly raw. At its heart lies the sweeping Katisunga Plain, a vast 425 km² expanse of golden grasslands where nature plays out its most dramatic scenes.
Fed by the Katuma and Chada Rivers, this ancient landscape comes alive during the dry season. As the floodplains recede and water becomes scarce, wildlife converges in astonishing numbers. Hundreds of hippos crowd into shrinking muddy pools, grunting and battling for space in a surreal, unforgettable spectacle. Massive crocodiles lie in wait, sunning on muddy banks. Towering elephants, herds of over a thousand buffalo, graceful giraffes, and zebra move across the plains, attracting lions and spotted hyenas that prowl the shadows. With over 400 bird species, the skies are no less alive.
An Authentic African Experience
Katavi offers the rarest of safari experiences—Africa as it once was. Unspoiled and scarcely visited, it promises pure adventure and solitude far from the beaten path.

Nature Drives

Embark on a thrilling game drive across untouched terrain in an open safari vehicle, led by expert guides who know the land like the back of their hand. With few visitors, every sighting feels deeply personal, each moment shared only with nature.

Fly Camping

For the truly adventurous, fly camping offers the soul of the safari. Walk with your guide through the bush, then arrive at a private, starlit camp where cool drinks and a warm fire await. Bathe under a hanging bucket shower, dine by lantern light with a three-course meal, and drift to sleep to the lullaby of the wild. It’s a rare communion with nature—intimate, exhilarating, and deeply grounding.

Wildlife Encounters

Katavi is home to some of the largest wildlife concentrations in Africa. Witness majestic herds of Cape buffalo, elephants, wildebeest, and antelope, while lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and hyenas lie in wait. Along the riverbanks, hippos and crocodiles dominate, and the birdlife is a vibrant symphony of color and sound
